Industry has a big opportunity with the Federal Acquisition Regulation overhaul, along with the opportunity agencies have to more efficiently access new technologies.
U.S. wargames and real conflicts consistently show that inventories of cruise missiles and interceptors deplete within days to months, while the industrial base takes years to replenish them due to analog missile design and rigid, design-specific supply chains.
Cyber advantage in defense operations is determined not by raw processing speed or the sophistication of tools in isolation, but by how rapidly teams can integrate new capabilities, intelligence, and context into specific mission workflows.

Editor's Notes - 1 Year of TMCP!
What do portfolio acquisition executives, the Drone Dominance Program, the huge Pentagon budget plus-up, the CMMC suspension, and the JCIDS overhaul all have in common? They’re not just defense headlines — they’re headlines that have all happened in just the last year! Information in this administration comes so fast that it can be hard to remember when a big announcement happened. For example, reforms to innovation and acquisition have already become so ingrained that it’s hard to believe the effort is still relatively new. The DDP is now so far along that it seems unfathomable we learned about it just since last Christmas!
Of course, the easiest way for me to remember some of these big headlines was a quick scroll back through previous editions of this publication. This Sunday, Oct. 18, marks a year since the first edition of The MC Post. I’d tell you to go admire the inaugural edition, but it’s a little bare-bones to say the least. Since then, we’ve added sections and grown the content here to a substantial product. What started as a recurring list of “weekend reads” on Mission Cultivate has grown into this weekly newsletter that captures the major headlines in defense and national security.
I have to take a quick moment to recognize a member of our team who made all this possible. Aaron Fehlen is our head of marketing and web extraordinaire who built the mechanics of the newsletter you see here each week. When we sat down to game out the structure and what we could do with it, his ideas and inspiration were indispensable.
What we came up with in the end was always driven by a pretty simple goal: We want to give Mission Cultivate users the best journalism out there to inform the conversations happening on the platform. MC is built to be a place for the people with solutions to find the people with needs and talk about how to connect the two faster. Being informed about policy changes and shifting priorities is critical to making that happen.
So thank you for a year of reading. There is so much good journalism happening in this ecosystem, and we’re happy to get to push relevant readers their way. And remember, if you ever want to contribute to the discussion, let me know!

A review found that while most of the 10 defense components surveyed have taken initial steps to implement Responsible AI principles, the Office of the Chief Digital and AI Officer's Responsible AI Working Council went without meetings from late 2024 until August 2025, leaving components without a collaborative forum to address implementation challenges and risking inconsistent guidance interpretation across the department.

The Army may have a new take on acquisition and modernization, but senior leaders have brought back an innovation from the first Trump administration: top-to-bottom reviews of program spending.
Instead of contract programs, officials are structuring acquisitions around portfolio bands like Fires & Maneuver, Command & Control or Robotics & Autonomous Systems, among others.

"The Army's value proposition is actually too fundamental for goofy corporate jargon," Acting Army Sec. Telle said Monday.
Col. Kevin "Stoney" Stonerook, deputy commander of US Northern Command's Joint Task Force-Gold said the unit's roles and responsibilities are still being ironed out.
The Trump administration is laying groundwork to enlist companies against foreign cybercriminals, but payment arrangements and protections for participating firms remain unresolved.
